Where do webm files come from?
Webm is the format of recordings made in the browser: screen recordings, Google Meet recordings and many recording extensions produce webm. Convenient for a quick capture, but most transcription tools cannot handle it. Murmel can: upload and done, as audio or video.
How it works
- Upload your file. Drop your webm file into the Studio; conversion is never needed.
- Murmel transcribes. The text is ready within minutes, with speaker labels if you want them.
- Correct and export. Replay the audio next to the text, adjust where needed and export to Word, text or subtitles.
Dutch model, Dutch servers
Murmel runs on a model trained specifically for Dutch speech that makes fewer errors than open-source alternatives such as Whisper in a public benchmark. Processing happens on servers in the Netherlands, your file is automatically deleted after 7 days and is not used for AI training unless you explicitly opt in.

Prepaid credits cost €1 per 50 minutes of audio (excl. VAT), available from €5 and valid for 6 months: a one-off file costs cents, no subscription. Transcribing regularly? Try 14 days for €0.01 first, then from €9 per month (excl. VAT), cancel monthly.
Frequently asked questions
My recording tool produces webm, do I need to convert it?
No. Murmel reads webm directly, both the audio and the video variant. The detour through a converter is exactly what this page makes unnecessary.
Does it work with Google Meet recordings?
Yes. Download the recording and upload the file in the Studio. Speaker identification automatically labels each speaking turn, useful for meetings.
What does converting a webm file to text cost?
