Where do wav files come from?
Wav is uncompressed audio: the format of field recorders (Zoom, Tascam), studio recordings and professional equipment. The files are large, but the sound quality is maximal, which helps transcription. Murmel also accepts large wav files from recordings of several hours.
How it works
- Upload your file. Drop your wav file into the Studio; conversion is never needed.
- Murmel transcribes. The text is ready within minutes, with speaker labels if you want them.
- Correct and export. Replay the audio next to the text, adjust where needed and export to Word, text or subtitles.
Dutch model, Dutch servers
Murmel runs on a model trained specifically for Dutch speech that makes fewer errors than open-source alternatives such as Whisper in a public benchmark. Processing happens on servers in the Netherlands, your file is automatically deleted after 7 days and is not used for AI training unless you explicitly opt in.

Prepaid credits cost €1 per 50 minutes of audio (excl. VAT), available from €5 and valid for 6 months: a one-off file costs cents, no subscription. Transcribing regularly? Try 14 days for €0.01 first, then from €9 per month (excl. VAT), cancel monthly.
Frequently asked questions
Are large wav files a problem?
No. Recordings of several hours and files of hundreds of megabytes upload directly. The upload takes a moment for large files; the transcription itself is done in minutes.
Does wav transcribe better than mp3?
It helps a little: wav contains the full audio quality, which matters most with quiet speakers or background noise. But Murmel transcribes compressed formats just fine too.
