Price, languages and meeting bot
The reference point is roughly 12 hours of audio per month, the allowance of the Murmel Basic plan. Where a service has no 12-hour plan, the nearest plan is listed. Only Murmel states explicitly that its price includes VAT; the other services do not say.

| Amberscript | According to its privacy policy never stored outside Europe | Never, according to its privacy policy |
| Happy Scribe | Data center in the EU (AWS, Heroku); transfers outside the EEA possible | Opt-in for content since 8 June 2026 |
| Good Tape | Servers in the EU | Never, according to its privacy promise |

Which one fits you?
You mostly transcribe Dutch and privacy matters
Think of a city council meeting, a job interview or interviews for a thesis. Murmel is built for this: an own model trained from scratch on Dutch speech, all data in the Netherlands, no training without consent, and your choice of how long recordings are kept. On four open Dutch benchmarks the largest model makes the fewest errors of the seven models tested (the measurement). One hour costs €1.45 incl. VAT with prepaid credits, or 12 hours a month for €10.89 with Basic.
You work in many languages or need translation
Murmel only does Dutch and English and does not translate. Happy Scribe (150+ languages, translation into 80+), Transkriptor (100+ languages with translation) and Notta (up to 58 languages) fit better. See Murmel vs Happy Scribe and Murmel vs Transkriptor.
You make subtitles for broadcast
Murmel exports SRT and VTT, enough for YouTube, social media and most video players (subtitle videos). For broadcast formats such as EBU-STL or subtitles made by people, Amberscript (human subtitles from €4.40 per minute) and Happy Scribe (professional subtitle formats) are the better choice.
You want 99% without correcting anything yourself
Software makes mistakes, especially with poor audio and people talking over each other. If the transcript must be flawless without you correcting it, for example for a legal record, choose human work: a Dutch transcription agency (€1.10 to €2.00 per minute), human transcription at Amberscript (from €1.85 per minute) or proofreading at Happy Scribe (from €1.75 per minute). A middle ground is described in Murmel vs a transcription agency.
You mostly meet in English, including on Zoom
Otter and Notta are made for meetings, with a Zoom bot and a free tier. Otter does not support Dutch, though (Murmel vs Otter). If you meet in Teams or Google Meet, in Dutch or mixing Dutch and English, the Murmel note taker can join.
How this comparison was made
This page was written by Murmel itself, not by an independent party. Murmel has no affiliation with de vergeleken diensten. On 22 October 2026 these public pages were checked: the pricing, terms, privacy and security pages of each service (linked on the individual comparison pages) and the rate pages of three Dutch transcription agencies. Only what they state has been used. Prices and features change, so always check the de vergeleken diensten website itself before you decide. Murmel has not measured the accuracy of de vergeleken diensten, so this page makes no claim about it. How Murmel itself is measured is described in the benchmark methodology. Frequently asked questions
What is the best transcription software for Dutch?
It depends on what you need. Murmel is made for Dutch only, with data in the Netherlands and a low price per hour. For many languages and translation Happy Scribe or Transkriptor are stronger; for human 99%, an agency or Amberscript.
Which service is the most accurate?
That has not been measured independently for all these services. Murmel measured itself on four open Dutch benchmarks against open-source models (results), not against the services on this page. The best test is your own recording: with €6.05 in credits you can try over four hours at Murmel.
Do the prices include VAT?
At Murmel, yes: €10.89 incl. VAT is €9 excl. The other services do not state on their pricing page whether VAT is included, so amounts are listed as shown there.
Is there free transcription software for Dutch?
Happy Scribe, Good Tape and Notta have a free trial or free tier with limits, such as 10 minutes, 1 hour or at most 3 minutes per recording. Murmel has no free tier: Basic starts with a 14-day trial and prepaid credits start at €6.05.
