For students: finding your way back in a lecture
You no longer have to choose between taking notes and listening. Open the Record tab in the Studio, on your phone as well, and record the lecture in the browser. Afterwards the transcript is ready. Search for the concept that comes back in the exam and you see straight away where the lecturer explained it; click it and you hear that part again.
- Record or uploadRecord in the browser, or upload a recording the programme makes available. Mp4, m4a, mp3 and most other formats work.
- Put subject terms in the vocabularyTerms such as "homeostasis", "price elasticity of demand" or a theorist's name go in the custom vocabulary, so they are spelled correctly in every following lecture.
- Organise per courseIn the Recordings tab, make a project per course and drag your lectures into it. At the end of the term you have everything for one course together.
- ExportExport to Word or PDF and add your own notes to the document. Murmel does not write a summary for you; the transcript is the basis, the learning is yours.
Dutch and English mixed together
In higher education lecturers often switch language: a Dutch lecture with English literature, an English-taught master's with a Dutch guest speaker, or English terms in the middle of a Dutch sentence. Murmel's model is trained on Dutch with English as a second language and handles both in one recording. You do not need to pick a language beforehand. Murmel does not support languages other than Dutch and English, so for a lecture in German or French it is not the right choice.
For teachers: accessible course material
A recorded video lesson or lecture with subtitles is usable for more students: those who are hard of hearing, those with Dutch as a second language, those watching on the train without sound. Upload the video, review the transcript in the editor, and export as SRT or VTT. Most video platforms and learning environments accept those files. How that works step by step is on subtitle videos.
A fully transcribed lecture is also a source for new material: a reading version for the learning environment, practice questions for the passages that raised many questions, or a glossary. You write those yourself, with the transcript as the starting point.
What it costs
A 90-minute lecture costs about €2.18 incl. VAT with prepaid credits. The smallest pack, €6.05, covers 250 minutes: enough for almost three lectures, and valid for six months. If you record several lectures a week, Basic is better value: €10.89 per month incl. VAT for 12 hours, about eight 90-minute lectures. Basic starts with a 14-day trial and you can cancel monthly. All amounts on pricing.
For educational institutions
If a programme, faculty or university of applied sciences wants to use Murmel for several teachers, there is a team account: a seat per person, one shared pool of minutes, one administrator and one invoice. Recordings and transcripts are processed and stored in the Netherlands and not used for training. You arrange a data processing agreement and payment by invoice via contact. Frequently asked questions
Can I record a lecture on my phone?
Yes. The Record tab works in your phone's browser. Place the phone as close as possible to the speaker or the room speaker; that matters more than which device you use.
Does Murmel also summarise the lecture?
No. Murmel delivers an accurate transcript, not a summary. You decide what the core is.
Does it work when the lecturer mixes English and Dutch?
Yes, both languages in one recording work. Other languages are not supported.
