Murmel vs Otter

The key point first: Otter does not support Dutch. According to its own help page Otter transcribes English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Simplified Chinese. If you meet in English, Otter is a strong choice. If Dutch is spoken, you need something else, such as Murmel.

What "no Dutch" means in practice

Dutch is not on the list of languages Otter transcribes. So you cannot convert a Dutch meeting, interview or voice memo with Otter, and the summary and chat Otter builds on top of the transcript do not work for it either. If you know Otter from an English-speaking workplace and now meet in Dutch, you need a different service for those conversations. For English conversations Otter can stay.

Where Otter is stronger

  • English meetings. Otter is made for English-language meetings, with a bot that has been around for years and chat about the conversation.
  • Zoom and a generous free tier. The bot works with Zoom, Teams and Meet, and free you get 300 minutes a month. Murmel has no Zoom bot and no free tier.
  • Integrations. Salesforce, HubSpot and Zapier, handy for sales teams.
  • Summaries and apps. AI summaries and iOS and Android apps.

Where Murmel is different

  • Dutch, with English alongside. The model was trained from scratch on Dutch speech, with English as a second language. A meeting that mixes Dutch and English gives one transcript. The measurement on open Dutch benchmarks is in Murmel v5.
  • Data in the Netherlands. Recordings and transcripts stay in the Netherlands, not in the US.
  • No training without opt-in. Only if you switch on the Training data setting yourself.
  • Long recordings and uploads. No limit of 30 minutes per conversation or 3 imports: upload as many files as you like, including recordings of several hours.

What it costs: two examples

10 hours of English meetings a month

For English-language meetings Otter Pro fits: $16.99 per user a month for 1,200 minutes (20 hours), or $8.33 billed annually. Murmel Basic costs €10.89 incl. VAT for 12 hours, English included. For Dutch meetings Otter is out and the comparison with Notta or Happy Scribe is more useful.

One Dutch interview of one hour

Otter cannot do this, not even on a paid plan. At Murmel you buy €6.05 in credits, enough for over four hours of Dutch audio. How to record and work up an interview is in transcribe interviews.

Switching from Otter

  1. Download your audioOtter lets you export audio as mp3 on every plan. Murmel accepts mp3 and nearly every other audio or video format.
  2. Upload and transcribe againMurmel does not import Otter transcripts, but makes a new transcript with speakers from the audio.
  3. Zoom or Teams? For Teams and Meet send the note taker. If you meet in Zoom, record in Zoom and upload the file.

How this comparison was made

This page was written by Murmel itself, not by an independent party. Murmel has no affiliation with Otter. On 22 October 2026 these public pages were checked: the Otter supported languages help page, pricing page and privacy policy. Only what they state has been used. Prices and features change, so always check the Otter website itself before you decide. Murmel has not measured the accuracy of Otter, so this page makes no claim about it. How Murmel itself is measured is described in the benchmark methodology. Spotted a mistake or an outdated price? Let us know via contact and it will be corrected.
