Murmel vs Happy Scribe

Happy Scribe is a broad service: 150+ languages, translation, subtitles, apps and a Zoom note taker. Murmel is narrow: Dutch and English, with everything in the Netherlands. If you work in many languages, choose Happy Scribe. If you mostly transcribe Dutch and want many hours for little money, choose Murmel.

Where Happy Scribe is stronger

  • Languages and translation. Over 150 languages and translation into more than 80. Murmel does Dutch and English and does not translate.
  • Subtitles. Over 15 export formats, including professional subtitle formats. Murmel has SRT and VTT.
  • Note taker for Zoom too, even free. The bot works with Meet, Zoom and Teams on every plan. Murmel does not support Zoom.
  • Summaries. AI summaries from Pro. Murmel delivers the transcript only.
  • Apps, integrations and teams. iOS and Android apps, integrations with YouTube, Vimeo, Drive, Dropbox and Zapier, and 3 seats on Pro.
  • Proofreading. Human proofreading from €1.75 per minute. Murmel does not offer that.

Where Murmel is different

Happy Scribe counts in minutes: 120 on Basic, 600 on Pro. Murmel counts in hours: 12 hours on Basic. For anyone transcribing a lot of Dutch, that is the biggest difference. On top of that, the Murmel model was trained from scratch on Dutch speech and measured on open Dutch benchmarks (the measurement). Happy Scribe was not part of that test, so this says nothing about which service is more accurate.

  • Data stays in the Netherlands. Storage at Scaleway, compute at Leafcloud in Amsterdam. No transfers outside the EEA for your audio and transcripts.
  • No 90-minute limit. Even a four-hour council meeting is fully processed: above three hours Murmel splits the recording into parts automatically.
  • Dutch and English mixed. A meeting where people switch between Dutch and English gives one transcript.
  • Custom vocabulary. Teach the model names and jargon with the vocabulary.

One interview of one hour

How this comparison was made

This page was written by Murmel itself, not by an independent party. Murmel has no affiliation with Happy Scribe. On 22 October 2026 these public pages were checked: the Happy Scribe pricing page, terms and security page. Only what they state has been used. Prices and features change, so always check the Happy Scribe website itself before you decide. Murmel has not measured the accuracy of Happy Scribe, so this page makes no claim about it. How Murmel itself is measured is described in the benchmark methodology. Spotted a mistake or an outdated price? Let us know via contact and it will be corrected.
